As the variety of smart bathroom technologies and appliances increases, luxury and ease will be two major home-design trends in 2016. If you want to fully remodel your bathroom, or are just looking to spruce it up, here are four smart features to consider.
1. Hands-free Faucets. One of the biggest trends in bathroom and kitchen design is the no-touch faucet. They give you greater control over water flow, keep faucet handles clean and reduce food contamination. Although motion-activated models are more common, touch-sensitive faucets that turn on with just a tap are also becoming popular.
2. Sustainable Showerheads. Low-flow showerheads are an inexpensive way to save money and increase comfort. Showers are a leading way we use water, accounting for 17 percent of water use inside homes. The standard showerhead flow rate is 2.5 gallons per minute, but sustainable showerheads can have a rate of just 1.5. The showerheads use aeration and spray technology so they feel the same as traditional showers – or even better.
3. Soaking Sound Systems. Bathrooms naturally offer great acoustics, but the new ways to bring sound into your bathroom help you capitalize on that feature. You can install speakers in the ceiling to get surround sound while also protecting them from getting wet. Or you can incorporate music into the shower itself. With products like the Moxie Showerhead, you can place a wireless speaker inside the showerhead – letting both the water and music wash over you.
4. Spa Shower. With the touch of a button you can turn your bathroom into a spa – one that knows your exact water, steam, light and sound preferences. Electronic shower-control systems like DTV Custom Showering Experience give you the ability to have the perfect bathing experience, all through an easy digital interface. Simply program your preferences and step into an incredible shower.
