Fall and spring are traditionally the most popular months for home remodels, but if you’re considering making some updates to your kitchen or even a complete renovation, summer may be the perfect time. Here’s why.
1. Cooking and entertainment. With barbecues, picnics and pool parties, summer is a time to get outdoors and fire up the grill. Because you cook and eat out more in the summer, the kitchen isn’t being used as often, which makes it the ideal time to remodel.
2. More options. Since fall and spring are the more active months for renovations, most contractors are less busy during the summer, which may mean they can complete your project faster or on tighter budget. Contractors also often have more flexibilityduring this time, so you can create a schedule that works best for you. In addition, many of the materials, like those for cabinets, flooring and granite countertops, are more readily available during this season.
3. Natural light. Summer brings a lot of bright natural light, which makes it easier to see the true colors of cabinet, door and countertop samples. During other times of the year, when it is cloudy or overcast, you may be viewing samples in unnatural lighting that gives you the illusion that something is a different color than it actually is. With natural light, you’ll get exactly what you see.
4. Vacation. If you choose a designer and contractor that you trust and plan out your choices ahead of time, then you have the option to take a family trip while renovation is underway. Contractors will be able to work free from interruptions, and you can come home to a new kitchen.
