As you’ve been hosting and toasting this holiday season, you may have noticed parts of your home that you wish could be improved. There’s no better time than the new year to give your home a refresh, whether it’s a simple change in décor or a big home improvement like adding an extension.
Try new paint colors. One of the easiest ways to quickly transform a space without breaking the bank is to paint the walls a different color. Don’t be afraid to use rich or bright colors, especially if you’re painting one wall as an accent. For a bigger home refresh, create a feature wall with tiles, wallpaper or wood accents.
Upgrade your lighting options. Installing dimmer lights is a low-cost way to alter the atmosphere in your home depending on the occasion. Whether you’re having friends over for lunch or hosting a late-night party, you can create the perfect mood. For a bolder impact, add a feature chandelier over the table or pendant lights in your kitchen that make the space pop.
Add more counter space. There are many moving parts in a busy family, and the kitchen tends to be the central hub of the home. Additional counter space offers more options so you can have space to prep dinner, plan your schedule and visit with your family. Consider installing pull-out counters, adding an island or adding a second tier to an existing island.
Open the floor plan. If you’ve noticed frequent bottlenecks in your kitchen, it may be time to change your floor plan. A designer or contractor can work with you to reconfigure your kitchen so that you have more open space. This may mean taking down a wall between the kitchen and another room to create better traffic patterns. If you really want to expand but don’t have the room, consider an extension to add more square footage.
